Writing On Paper

2026 Lutheran Letter Campaign

Lutheran tradition is steeped in the radical, sacrificial love of Jesus for the marginalized. It is also based in Martin Luther's mission to disrupt systems of injustice and exploitation. Our 2026 Lutheran Letter Campaign calls on you and your community to live into both of these facets of Lutheranism by making your voices heard through civic action. Check out our key issues below, or download the entire packet, which includes a guide to writing a good advocacy letter!

SNAP Cuts and Food Insecurity

More than 440,000 Minnesotans rely on SNAP to put food on the table, including children, seniors, veterans, and people with disabilities. In fact, 63% of SNAP recipients are families with children. SNAP is one of several programs that are under threat, worsening the already concerning level of hunger in our state. Download the letter writing guide for this issue to do your part in defending SNAP and ensuring that all Minnesotans have access to proper nutrition.

Electronic Waste Recycling

Electronic waste is the fastest growing waste stream in the world, and Minnesotans alone generate 266 million pounds of e-waste every year. This waste is dangerous as well, often resulting in battery fires. Although e-waste only accounts for 1-2% of Minnesota's total waste, it generates 70% of the toxins in landfills. The vast majority of this waste is recyclable, and the metals in these products could bring in $2.8 billion in economic value. Download the letter writing guide for this issue to encourage our lawmakers to make Minnesota a leader in e-waste recycling and prepare for the onset of the electric economy.

Ethical Immigration Enforcement

In December of 2025, Operation Metro Surge brought thousands of ICE agents to the Twin Cities, and would go on to expand to the rest of the state in the largest immigration enforcement action in U.S. history. Since then, we have seen countless actions by ICE that have not only violated the sanctity and safety of our communities, but also the law. Lawsuits have been brought forth alleging racial profiling, wrongful detention, excessive use of force, abuse of detainees, violation of court orders, and violations of constitutional rights. We are all created in God's image, regardless of our nation of origin. These abuses of power must be curbed. Download the letter writing guide for this issue to add your voice to the thousands that are calling for ethical reform and a system that respects and honors all of God's beloved children.
